A magician of sound, through his music Raghunath Manet gives meaning to the wanderlust of every listener. Like a musical prophet of happiness, while fusing the traditional and the contemporary, he delivers a message of universal peace through his visionary sound.
On Sunday 26th May from 5pm to 6pm, Raghunath performs his most beautiful musical creations at Lou Calen, accompanied by his ‘veena’, the sacred musical instrument.
Dr. Balamurali Krishna, the famous Indian singer, describes Raghunath as “a musician of extraordinary talent and the highest calibre. He is undoubtedly the greatest veena master of today.”
Originally from Pondicherry, India, Dr. Raghunath Manet is an artist, dancer-choreographer, musician-composer, singer, writer, actor and filmmaker.
Raghunath has performed on international stages (Opera–Bastille, Shakespeare’s Globe in London, Theatro Olympico in Rome) and has enjoyed prestigious musical collaborations with Gilberto Gil, Archie Sheff, Michel Portal, Didier Lockwood, Richard Galliano, Aldo Brizzi and Carolyn Carlson. He was notably scheduled for the inauguration of the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, and has also performed for Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Chanel and at the Sporting Club de Monaco.
Dr. Manet has received numerous awards during his career. In 2015, the French Minister of Culture named him “Officier de l’ordre des arts et des lettres” (Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters). In 2017, the President of India presented him with the title of “Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA) 2017”, one of the highest distinctions in Indian culture. In 2018, he received the special award of “Global Ambassador of Indian Music” at the Indywood Film Festival.
For Raghunath, music is life, and “a tradition that is not reinterpreted, dies”. In his musical album “Veena Dreams” which he will perform at Lou Calen, he delivers an alchemy of traditional and modern music, and thus establishing himself as one of the most innovative Indian musicians of recent decades.
”Dance of Shiva”, his first documentary as director, was presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013.
